AGARTALA: Tripura Pradesh Congress president and a royal scion, Pradyot Bikram Kishor Debbarman has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of not keeping any of the election assurances it had given before the last Assembly election.

Addressing a public meeting in support of the party candidates for the panchayat elections at Ratacherra Panchayat of Fatkroy in Dhalai District, he said that “the people have realized the falsehood of BJP and deserted it. This is why the BJP lost its faith on the people and applying force to capture the panchayats.”

State president of the Mahila Congress Joydani Tripura, working president of the Youth Congress Pujan Biswas were also present at the meeting. Members of over 40 families who were supporters of the BJP, CPM and IPFT left their party and joined the Congress in the meeting. Pradyot Bikram welcomed them by offering them the party flag.

Pradyot Bikram highlighted the role the Congress has played in the development of the nation and establishing democracy in the country and urged the people to preserve it.

Though the BJP has won uncontested 86 per cent of the Panchayat seats, the other political parties are not leaving the field open for the BJP. Both the Congress and the CPM are campaigning in the constituencies where election is going to held on July 27 as the BJP is also holding campaigns at various places.
