Agartala: Amid tension over the alleged derogatory comment about the Gita by a leader of a rationalist movement, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) launched a scathing attack alleging that the rationalists are trying to misguide the people.

Dulal Ghosh, an engineer of the Kamalpur Municipal Council and a front-ranking worker of the rationalist movement in the sub-division in Dhalai district in Tripura in a Facebook post reportedly used some derogatory words while referring to the Gita.

The incident sparked tension as a group of VHP workers demonstrated against it and even attacked his house. Kamalpur Mandal committee president of the BJP, Shyamal Pal registered an FIR with Kamalpur police station against Dulal Ghosh accusing him of injuring peoples’ sentiment and trying to create public disorder.

Dulal Ghosh in a statement denied that he has made any derogatory comment and bagged apology if any of his comments has injured anyone. But this failed to ease the situation as the president of the VHP Dhalai District Committee Tapan Yadav in a fresh statement said the so-called rationalists are not only misguiding the people, but also telling lies. He alleged that it is not the first time, the accused Dulal Ghosh had made derogatory comments about Hindus.

Meanwhile, the rationalist forces also launched a counter-campaign against the Hindutva forces and organized a protest rally at Agartala where the president of the Human Rights Organisation Purushottam Roy Barman alleged that the free voices are being thwarted in the State.
