Reang refugees residing in camps at Kanchanpur attack police in Tripura, four injured

Agartala: At least four police personnel including sub-divisional police officer Bikramjit Sukladas and officer-in-charge of Kanchanpur police station Paritosh Das sustained injuries when a group of Reang refugees residing in camps at Kanchanpur attacked them at Dasda area on Sunday night. Police also resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the youths in which one sustained minor injuries.

The incident took place when the police party led by OC Paritosh Das was patrolling in the area and noticed a Mariti van moving speedily from Dasda towards Kambal Tilla. Suspecting something wrong, police asked the van to stop. The van stopped and the persons who were in the van came down and attacked the OC and other police personnel.

Another patrol party led by the SDPO also came under attack when they reached the spot, forcing the police to resort to lathi- charge. Meanwhile, local people also reached the spot and defused the tension. However, police arrested the driver of the van Dungarai alias Basuram Reang who was also injured injury in the scuffle.

Meanwhile, a group of Reang refugee leaders alleged that police has tortured Basuram in their custody and reportedly trying to create some unruly seen in the sub-division.
