Record Number of Security Personnel to be Deployed in Poll-Bound Tripura

AGARTALA: A huge force comprising of the Central Armed Police Force, Tripura State Rifles and Tripura Police will be deployed in the state ahead of the voting for the Tripura legislative assembly. This step has been taken to prevent any election-related violence in the Northeastern state.

According to reports, more than 43000 personnel will be deployed across the state ahead of the elections. This included the 400 companies of the Central Armed Police Force that will be provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs to the state which accounts for 30000 personnel. This combines the forces of the Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Assam Rifles and Central Industrial Security Force.

8000 jawans from the Tripura State Rifles and 5000 members of Tripura Police will also be pressed into service to maintain safety and security throughout the election process. Notably, Tripura goes to election on February 16.

Reportedly, 200 companies of the Central Armed Police Force have arrived in the state and have already been deployed in different parts of the state while the remaining 200 companies will be arriving during the first week of this month. These teams will be deployed for area domination, patrolling, vehicle patrolling, flag march, Naka checking and counter-insurgency measures during this election time.

It can be added that the state has seen multiple instances of election-related violence since the time that the parties started their campaigns for this election which has led to death and injuries in the state.

A strict vigil is also being maintained at all the entry points of the state as well as 192 Naka Check Points across the state as a preventive measure against any possible untoward incident in the state. The security personnel have conducted more than 1700 flag marches and area domination patrols in a bid to make people feel safe during this time.
