AGARTALA: Senior CPI (M) leader and Opposition deputy leader Badal Choudhury was attacked by some unidentified persons in Manirampara area of Belonia in the South District of Tripura.

As per reports, Choudhury was attacked when he along with other leaders of the party were on their way to observe the death anniversary of Dhananjay Tripura, a Kokborok language movement martyr, at Manirampara village.

Reportedly, some miscreants who are yet to be identified damaged the vehicles of the Left leaders and tried to physically harm them. A case has been registered in this regard and investigations are going on.

The Tripura unit of CPI (M) in a statement alleged that the MLA was attacked by a group of motorcycle-borne goons hired by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

The CPI (M) in a tweet stated. "Former Min & CPI(M) CC mem com. Badal Choudhury & othr CPI(M) leaders attacked by BJP's hoodlums at Manirambai, Belonia, South Tripura today while commemorating martyr Dhananjoy Tripura. He was shot dead by police demanding recognition of Kokborok in 1975 at Jolaibari.

Police officials informed that Choudhury have received minor injuries and has been rushed to the hospital, his condition is said to be stable now.

The CPI(M) also took out a rally in Agartala in protest against the alleged attack.

Rubbishing the allegations made by the CPI (M), BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee said that the party does not believe in the politics of violence and rather questioned the CPI (M) over the attack, he further stated that a proper investigation should be carried out to nab the culprits.

Meanwhile in Assam, the convoy of Lurinjyoti Gogoi, the president of the newly floated Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP),  came under attack allegedly by supporters of the BJP in Nalbari district ahead of the assembly elections on Sunday. The police said that investigation into the matter has started. Though no one was injured in the incident which took place in Kalag area, one car of the convoy was damaged.
