KOHIMA: To commemorate the golden jubilee of Indian Armed Forces victory in 1971 Indo-Pak War, the Swarnim Vijay Mashaal was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from National War Memorial in New Delhi on December 16, 2020. Four victory flames lit from the eternal flame at National War Memorial are being carried throughout the cities and villages across the nation including native places of Param Vir Chakra (PVC) and Maha Vir Chakra (MVC) awardees of 1971 war.

Now the Swarnim Vijay Mashaal is scheduled to reach Agartala on November 5, 2021. Brig Nilesh Chowdhary, Station Commander, Military Station Agartala will receive the Swarnim Vijay Mashaal with full military honour, which will be in the historic city till November 9, 2021.

Agartala was the hub of strategic planning for the Liberation War of Bangladesh. Pakistani forces had set Agartala as the target, barely days before they surrendered to General Jagjit Singh Arora. It was the valiant act of Lance Naik Albert Ekka PVC (Posthumous) and his men that Agartala was saved. The fearless and spirited people of Agartala worked as informers, fighters and were helping the Indian Forces during those testing times. The people of Agartala provided all necessary help and assistance to the refugees from East Pakistan.

The commemorative events during the three days will be wreath lying to honour the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice by Satyadeo Narain Arya, Governor of Tripura on November 6, 2021 at Albert Ekka War Memorial along-with other civil and military dignitaries. A Vijay Prarikrama with the Victory Flame around prominent places in the city by afternoon on the same day culminating at the Rabindra Bhavan. The event at Rabindra Bhavan will feature various cultural events, combined forces band display, 1971 war gallery and military equipment display. The Veer Naris and Veterans of 1971 war will be felicitated by the chief guest, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, stated a press release.
