Thai Ambassador Discusses Trade and Cultural Ties with Tripura CM Biplab Deb

Thailand ambassador Chutintorn Gongsakdi who is on an India visit presently met Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb in Agartala and discussed on an array of matters ranging from business, trade and tourism to cultural exchange between the two countries. With this meeting between the two political leaders of both the countries, some advancement in terms of the trade and cultural relations can certainly be expected.

The Thai Ambassador Gongsakdi has come in advance under a tour scheduled for the visit of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand. The Thai princess is coming for a visit to three north-eastern states, namely, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura which is scheduled to be in November this year. Notably, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhor is a Padma Bhushan recipient and will be on India visit for the eighteenth time.

Ambassador Gongsakdi said, "In November, Princess Sirindhorn will visit India. She will visit Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Trade between us is doing quite well, but it is still under potential. For North East, Trilateral Highway and Border Trade Tourism will be important."

Lately, the Thailand is showing a keen interest in investing in various sectors of India and as a recent instance; the ambassador informed that 28 big Thai companies have come forward to invest in various sectors like food, auto parts, computer parts and SME (small-to-medium enterprise) of India.

Gongsakdi also let it know that as their Princess is interested in the lifestyle and culture of the tribes of the region, they would also like to learn and let their people know things about the rich cultural heritage of India’s northeastern region. As this north-eastern state along with its neighbouring states is pretty rich in cultural practices and traditional attires, this particular region of the country has always been the centre of attraction for the outsiders.
