AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha declared on December 21 that over 99% of the state's villages have now achieved banking access within a five-kilometer radius, which marked great progress in financial inclusion. Saha spoke at the North East Bankers Conclave attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister of DoNER Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu.
“Tripura has opened 10.83 lakh bank accounts under the PM-Jan Dhan Yojana, accumulating deposits of ₹617 crore. The average deposit per account stands at ₹5,702, surpassing the national average of ₹4,357,” Saha stated. He emphasized the state’s commitment to 100% financial inclusion through flagship schemes like PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, Mudra Yojana, and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana.
He also noted that, under the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion, all villages in Tripura now have a banking touchpoint or outlet, while every district and block is equipped with ATM facilities. Since 2021-22, Tripura's State Level Banking Committee has received the Award of Excellence for its performance under the Atal Pension Yojana.
Saha highlighted the role of 2,800 business correspondents in bringing low-cost banking services to remote areas and lauded banks for their efforts in boosting agriculture and MSME lending. “Tripura targets an 80% Credit-Deposit Ratio by 2047 under the Lakshya initiative,” he added.
Earlier, Saha attended the 72nd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council and a meeting of the North East Space Application Centre Society, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
