AGARTALA: Assam Rifles, in a significant move towards promoting education, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Axis Bank and the National Integrity and Educational Development Organisation (NIEDO) for the implementation of Project DEEPAK. This project seeks to support underprivileged but talented students in Tripura by preparing them for various competitive entrance examinations.

The formal signing of the MoU took place at the 21 Sector Assam Rifles headquarters in Agartala, with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha in attendance.

Commending the Assam Rifles' initiative, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of providing high-quality education. He affirmed that education serves as a key indicator of both national and state progress. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ongoing efforts to deliver quality education to the country's most marginalized regions are aligned with the vision behind Project DEEPAK.

Through this initiative, selected students in the state of Tripura will receive coaching to prepare for various competitive examinations.

The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation, saying, "I am very glad that Assam Rifles is following PM Modi's lead when he emphasized that the development of the country is not possible without the Northeast." The 21 Sector Assam Rifles headquarters, located in Teliamura, is already providing free coaching and accommodation to 30 students, with plans to select additional students through an examination in October 2023. Meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds will benefit from this scheme.

The selected students will be accommodated in Teliamura, under the jurisdiction of Khowai district. Moreover, the Project DEEPAK has the potential to offer administrative roles to a specific number of marginalized locals at the center, providing them with valuable employment opportunities.

Assam Rifles, under the HQ Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), organized the Swachchta Hi Seva campaign under Sawchhta Pakwada with effect from October 1 to 2 at Battalion Headquarters Lokra, according to a press release.
