AGARTALA: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel posted along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura foiled two major attempts at smuggling and seized goods worth an estimated Rs. 20 lakh in separate operations.
The first seizure took place at the Anandpur border outpost where BSF jawans had busted a consignment of 4,115 packets of firecrackers valued at Rs. 10.60 lakh. According to sources, it was destined to be smuggled into Bangladesh.
In another operation on 31st December 2024, BSF personnel present at the border outpost of Dipak seized 80 new mobile handsets and 239 bottles of cough syrup containing brands, such as Phensedyl and Eskuf. The total value of the confiscated materials was estimated to be Rs. 9.34 lakh.
The smuggling of cough syrup along the eastern border has continued unabated because it can be misused as an intoxicant, and its illegal trade is a cause for concern. The seizure of these goods is a reflection of the BSF's vigilance and its efforts to stop cross-border smuggling activities.
Both operations exposed the difficulties in dealing with smuggling networks across India's porous borders with Bangladesh. In these areas, the BSF has stepped up surveillance and operational efforts to prevent illegal activities, ensure security across the borders, and protect public welfare.
Confiscated items have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further investigation and necessary legal actions.
