AGARTALA: In a significant move during the inaugural session of the 2025-26 budget, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha declared a 3% increase in dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees and dearness relief (DR) for pensioners.

The decision, announced on March 21, will elevate the existing allowance rate from 30% to 33%, providing a tangible financial uplift to thousands of government employees.

Implementation of this increased allowance is slated to commence from April 1, 2025, with the state government earmarking a substantial sum of Rs. 300 crore to facilitate the adjustment.

Emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing the economic needs of its workforce and retirees, CM Saha stated, “We have decided to provide 3% DA and DR for government employees and pensioners” during his address to the state assembly.

This move is anticipated to positively impact a large segment of the population across Tripura, signifying the administration’s proactive approach to mitigating the effects of rising living expenses on public sector beneficiaries.

The budget session of the Tripura Assembly started on Friday, and apart from the budget for fiscal year 2025-26, some important bills and reports will be tabled during the session.

“The Tripura Assembly session would be the longest in 15 years. The government wants more and more detailed and in-depth discussions on the budget and other important issues,” the Parliamentary Affairs Minister told the media.
