Agartala: After introducing the world to expertly crafted bamboo water bottles, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has announced another Tripuri specialty on the occasion of World Bamboo Day -- bamboo cookies. Deb today also launched bamboo honey bottles which can be used to store, you guessed, it, honey.

During the launch ceremony held at the Civil Secretariat, Deb said that the indigenous bamboo cookies have rich nutritional value and will nourish the rural population of the state. He further expressed hope that these initiatives will generate employment opportunities in Tripura, which, in turn, will make the state's youths "self-reliant" or aatma nirbhar. These brand new cookies would be filled in the bamboo bottles and then wrapped up by "Hrishas" for marketing, Deb said.

The Tripura Chief Minister also took to Twitter to formally announce the launching of these bamboo-made cookies. "On the occasion of World Bamboo Day, launched bamboo cookies and bamboo made honey bottles," Deb wrote in a tweet, while also sharing pictures.

"Bamboo cookies and honey bottles will now add another feather to our cap. It will generate livelihood opportunities for many and fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji's vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat," he further added.

It needs mention here that the bamboo cookies and bamboo honey bottles are being developed by the Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI).  BCDI's Tripura head Avinav Kant has informed that the cookies are made from the shoots of "Muli Bamboo", available in abundance in Tripura and other northeastern states.

The "Muli Bamboo", with the scientific name "Melocanna Baccifera", is said to be rich in various vitamins and other healthy ingredients.

"The bamboo cookies and bamboo made honey bottles' market value and demand would be very high in the Indian and international markets. This will also provide livelihoods to a lot of people in Tripura," Kant told the media.
