Guwahati: Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb hailed the efforts undertaken to construct the floating jetty at Sonamura, Tripura, in just 3 weeks. Deb has also lauded the effort taken by Mansukh Laxmanbhai Mandaviya, who is the Union Minister of State for Shipping.

According to officials, the construction of the makeshift jetty was done on war footing mode. It is a floating jetty and around 700 plastic boxes were used to in its making.

Paving the way for small vessels to ply between Sonamura and Daudkandi of Bangladesh, the jetty is expected to put Sonamura on the map for Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route. The Union Minister of State for Shipping also expressed his delight at the prospect of this jetty bringing economic development in North-east. The floating jetty, locals have opined, could signal the coming of immense economic development to the region.

Despite the nationwide lockdown and its impact on the availability of hired hands and other resources, the construction of the makeshift jetty at the Sonamura region continued at an efficient pace. For the locals, the jetty is a manifestation of the promise of economic development of the border region.
