Tripura : CPI (M) Leader Brinda Karat Slams Modi Govt For Failing to Protect Women

AGARTALA : PM Narendra Modi's integrity was questioned during a rally organised by All India Democratic Women's Association to protest against the rapid growth of crime against women.

CPI (M) member Brinda Karat slammed PM Narendra Modi for not being able to keep the women and girls safe in the country. While leading a rally of women in Agartala on 19th of December, Monday, Karat asserted that approximately 86 women are raped everyday in India.

Apart from that, she also mentioned about the gruesome instances of dowry cases where 60,000 brides are burnt alive every year. PM Modi until now has failed to protect the women from these societal evil, added Brinda Karat.

She claimed involvement of several BJP bodies in raping and harassment on women. However, no arrest has been made against these leaders. There exists an unmatched anarchy in Tripura, added Brinda.

Furthermore, she emphasised the fact that a huge number of voters was restricted from casting their votes in four elections, local units, Lok Sabha, Assembly by-election in Tripura, despite PM Narendra Modi's assurance regarding democracy at the G20 meeting. Citizens in Tripura are discussing this matter and Modi will face the repercussions in the coming state Assembly elections.

The CPI (M) leader is of the view that, instead of providing protection to the women of this nation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is involved in demolishing everything else.

She also mentioned about the fund sanctioned for establishing a secure scenario through various departments, in order to provide security to girls and women. An amount of Rs 6,000 crore was released under Nirbhaya Fund. Modi government has however failed to utilise even half of it, Karat said.

People are gradually realising how the PM is promoting fundamentalism but has shown lack of sincerity towards women empowerment. The rally led by All India Democratic Women's Association revolved around the uplift, protection and safety of the women in India.
