AGARTALA: The Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested two touts from the Bamutia and Sidhai police station areas under West Tripura District at midnight on Friday for allegedly aiding illegal border crossings from Bangladesh into India. The accused were presented before the court on Saturday.

Confirming the arrests, Agartala GRP's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tapas Das said, "These people have been doing this for a long time - helping Bangladeshi nationals cross the border illegally. We have sent them to court today as per legal procedures.

This is in the context of an increased crackdown on illegal immigration in the region. In January, Das revealed that the Railway Police caught nine Bangladeshi citizens who had crossed into India illegally through Agartala Railway Station. In the same month, 13 touts who assisted people in making such crossings were also arrested.

Reaffirming the commitment of the authorities to curbing illegal immigration, Das assured, "Our operations to curb such illegal activities will continue in full force to ensure the security of our borders."

Given that the state shares its border with Bangladesh, the authorities have been alerted to stop unauthorized movement.

The recent arrests have shown that the administration is unrelenting in the fight against cross-border infiltration and strengthening national security.
