AGARTALA: A good number of female workers from Tripura employed in a cloth mill in Tamil Nadu are spending days in utter dismay since the lockdown and are unable to return to their home. Moreover now, the owner of the mill is forcing them to do extra work without any extra pay. They are being even forced to work on Sundays.

Sujata Modi, president of the Garments and Fashion Workers Union, in separate letters, informed Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarma and the Chief Secretary of the State of the condition of the workers and requested them to take a steps to rescue the helpless lot.

She said the 33 women from Tripura are employed in the Cotton Blossom Private Limited at Tirpur in Tamil Nadu and after the lockdown was announced they wanted to go back to their homes and registered their names, but unfortunately did not get any response from any corner.

The letter said the company is also not extending any help to them and instead, forcing them to do extra work.
