Tripura: GBP Hospital to Begin Organ Transplants, Partners with Mohan Foundation

Chennai-based Mohan Foundation will collaborate with GBP Hospital to facilitate these transplants, enhancing the state’s healthcare services.

AGARTALA: A new chapter in Tripura’s healthcare sector is set to begin as organ transplantation, including liver transplants, will soon be conducted at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital. Chennai-based Mohan Foundation will collaborate with GBP Hospital to facilitate these transplants, enhancing the state’s healthcare services.

Medical Superintendent of Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital, Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, announced this at a press conference on January 30. A stakeholder workshop was organized on January 29 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, where he sought everyone’s cooperation in making organ donation and transplantation successful in the state.

AIIMS Neurosurgery Professor (Dr.) Deepak Gupta, who attended the press conference, explained that a Brain Death Committee must be formed, and a certification must be issued by four doctors before organ donation can proceed. If a brain-dead patient’s heartbeat continues, their heart can be donated.

Mohan Foundation’s Executive Director, Pallavi Kumar, stressed the need for proper infrastructure, trained professionals, and family motivation for successful organ transplantation.

The press conference was attended by AGMC Principal Prof. (Dr.) Anup Kumar Saha, AIIMS Neurosurgery Professor (Dr.) Deepak Gupta, Mohan Foundation’s Executive Director Pallavi Kumar, Deputy Medical Superintendent & General Administration Dr. Konak Chowdhury, Deputy Medical Superintendents Dr. Monirul Islam, Dr. Abhijit Sarkar, Deputy Director of Administration Gideon Malsom, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Bikash Debbarma, and other officials.
