Tripura gears up to execute scheme for farmers

Agartala: Preparations are going on to ensure money is deposited in the bank accounts of farmers covered by the Prime Minister’s Kishan Sanmman Yogona before the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.

Finance Minister Pijush Goyal had announced the project on February 1 while presenting the Union Budget in Parliament. As per the programme, each farmers family having less than two hectres of land and used fully for agricultural purpose are entitled for the benefit. Under the programme, each member of a family will get Rs 6 thousand annually in three instalments.

In a letter despatched to the State Government, the Union Ministry for Agriculture has told all the State governments to conduct an hurried assessment and to send the list of beneficiaries to the ministry before March 31. It is learnt that the promptness with which the ministry is moving is clearly to ensure payment of the benefits before the elections.

As per instruction, the Tripura government also initiated the process for preparation of the list of beneficiaries. The ministry also instructed the State Government to launch a massive campaign to create awareness among the farmers about the benefits of the programme and to ensure enlistment of all covered under the scheme.
