Agartala: The Tripura government's workers demanded "One Nation One Pay," a reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's catchphrase, "One Nation One Election." The Tripura TET Teachers Welfare Association held a conference at the Agartala Press Club where the demand was made.

The central government's decision to establish an 8th Pay Commission for its employees served as the foundation for the conference. Employees of the state government have long felt deprived since they always fall far behind their counterparts in the central government.

They claimed that they are receiving lower compensation and benefits even though they are doing comparable work.

The leaders who attended the convention stated that the employees' front should not be kept at a distance when the country attempts to standardise its legislative operations. Additionally, the said that the government ought to consider standardising employee compensation and benefits.

The 8th Pay Commission, approved by the Cabinet, aims to increase central government employees’ salaries by 25-30% and pensions proportionately, benefiting 50 lakh employees and 65 lakh pensioners. Expected to take effect from January 2026, the revision will address inflation, rising costs, and private sector pay gaps, with a projected fitment factor of 2.6-2.85.

The basic minimum salary may exceed ₹40,000, enhancing disposable income and boosting economic consumption. Following the 7th Pay Commission, which introduced a 23.55% average salary hike in 2016, the new commission will ensure fair compensation through consultations with governments, PSUs, and stakeholders, with recommendations finalized before 2026.
