Agartala: The Tripura government is preparing an elaborate plan to distribute seeds and other materials necessary for jhum cultivation in the hills as well as to ensure that the jhumias can maintain their families when they are away in the field.
The farmers suffered badly during the last three years due to uncertain weather but this time, the weather is in their favour as they could harvest in time and could burn the jhum fields and it is now the time for new plantation.
Despite a favourable situation, the jhumias are facing serious problem as they could not procure the seeds in time and finding it difficult to run their homestead as there is no work in the village including the work for MGNREGA,
Mever Kumar Jamatia, Tribal Welfare Minister, said the government is well aware about the problems and chalked out several programmes to address their problem. The department has identified twelve most backward blocks where distressed families will get special assistance including seeds for jhum.
The minister said it is the high time for jhum cultivation and there is no scope to miss it.
