GUWAHATI: Instead of implementing the promised 7th Pay Commission to hike in pays and allowances of government employees, the Government of Tripura has decided to cut 1 day’s salaries of the employees for not attending offices on September 10.

Notably, on September 10, the ‘Bharat Bandh’, called by the Congress party to oppose the constant hike on fuel prices in the country, had received mixed reactions in Tripura. Eventually, numbers of government employees could not attend offices due to lack of public vehicles on road. Moreover, on the pretext of untoward incidents during the bandh, numbers of employees did not take risks and remained absent from duties.

During the bandh, autos, and other public vehicles did not provide services as it was against the fuel price hike.

Keeping aside all these circumstances, the Tripura government has taken the employees’ absence as a gross lapse and decided to cut salaries against those who remained absent on September 10.

Notably, before the election, Tripura BJP promised to implement the 7th pay commission. However, the same is now cutting pockets of government employees fuelling resentment among them.
