Agartala: An IAS officer has been charged with physically abusing his doctor wife and breaking her hand in what may be the first case of its kind in Tripura due to unfulfilled dowry demands after the marriage.

The doctor wife had no choice but to make a formal complaint with the state women's commission when the state police, particularly the Belonia police station, failed to register her complaint. However, no action has been taken against the IAS officer.

K. Pradip Krishnaraj, an IAS officer currently serving as ADM in Belonia, married Dr. M.J. Difi of Thiruvanantapuram, Kerala, where she is working as a doctor, according to the case details published in two local media agencies. K.Pradip Krishnaraj married Dr. M.J. Difi in her paternal home in Tamil Nadu in March of 2022.

The first few days of their marriage went smoothly, but shortly after, he and his family began to put pressure on Dr. Difi and her father for more dowry, even though a sizable dowry in the form of cash, gold, and other items had already been given at the time of the marriage.

Dr. Difi filed a complaint of domestic violence in a Kerala court as well because she could no longer stand the physical and sexual abuse she was subjected to by her husband and his family.

According to sources, Dr. M.J. Difi attempted to enter her ADM spouse K. Pradip Krishnaraj's official residence on January 8th, along with her father Manikandan, but the latter began using foul language on her and her father and fractured her left hand.

After receiving initial care for her injured hand at Belonia Hospital, she headed to GBP Hospital in Agartala for better treatment. In the Belonia police station, she also tried to make a complaint against her ADC husband. However, the policemen there did not do so out of concern for ADM K.Pradip Krishnaraj.

Despite Dr. Diffi's complaint being filed with the State Women's Commission, nothing has been done about it. She also submitted letters of complaint to the chief secretary and DGP.

According to sources, she might approach the National Commission for Women to have her complaints heard if nothing is done. The accused ADM, K. Pradip Krishnaraju, of Belonia, could not be reached to address the accusations against him.
