AGARTALA: Tripura’s Agriculture and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath praised the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) as a groundbreaking healthcare initiative, recognizing it as the largest health insurance program globally.

Minister Nath credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the visionary implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which covers medical expenses up to Rs. 5 lakh for eligible beneficiaries.

During his address on Monday, Nath outlined Tripura’s achievements under the scheme, noting that the state had successfully distributed Ayushman Bharat cards to 100% of eligible beneficiaries. To date, 15.41 lakh cards have been issued in Tripura, benefiting 3.67 lakh individuals who have received medical treatment. Additionally, the state has disbursed Rs. 197 crore to empaneled hospitals for services rendered.

Nath accepted the lacunas in coverage and brought in the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana (CMJAY) in 2023 to further extend free treatment to those left out under PMJAY. Since February 2024, 18,500 people have benefited from the treatment, and 4.77 lakh CMJAY cards have been distributed. The program has been allocated Rs. 5.5 crore.

Nath also discussed other key health initiatives, including the Pradhan Mantri Jana Mana Scheme, the Health Scheme for Central Armed Police Forces, and the Central Health Scheme for Motor Workers. He emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare accessibility and highlighted its comprehensive approach to development, which spans health, education, agriculture, and more.
