Tripura Municipal councilor resigns on the eve of civic bye-poll

AGARTALA: With the process already started to hold the bye-election of the vacant seats of the civic bodies, a fresh bout of resignations have begun with the CPI(M) member of the ward no 12 of Ambassa Municipal Council Dipen Sutradhar submitting his resignation on Saturday last.

Talking to reporters, he said that he had submitted his resignation due to family reasons and health ground. However, Chandan Bhowmik, Chairman of the Council expressed his ignorance about any resignation. Gopal Sutradhar, president of the BJP Ambassa Mandal Committee, welcomed the decision of Dipen Sutradhar. Of late, the Municipal Council has turned to be ineffective and he was hardly discharging any duty. He predicted that some other councilors also will submit their resignations after Diwali.

A large number of councilors in the different civic bodies in the State has submitted their resignations after the BJP-IPFT coalition government came into power in February last defeating the CPI(M)-led Left Front. The State Election Commission has initiated the process to hold the bye-election to the vacant seats of all the civic bodies of the State and the draft voters list has also been published. The bye-election is expected to be held in the last part of December.
