Agartala: The prestigious 'Bhismadeb Memorial' award has been conferred to Parijat Dutta, a renowned writer from Tripura for his outstanding contribution in literature.
The award has been named after Late Bhishmadeb Bhattacharjee, who was a journalist and a writer well-known for his short stories.
After his death in the year 1889, the then government introduced the 'Bhismadeb Memorial' award in his honour to acknowledge the talents of short-story writers in the state. The award is given to a prominent creative short-story writer every year.
Parijat Dutta will be handed offer the award and a cash prize on the last day of the Agartala Book Fair, the organizing committee said.
With over a hundred short stories published in his name in the 'Dainik Sambad' and other newspapers and magazines of state, Dutta has proved to be a deserving recipient of this award. His short stories have been published in many magazines in West Bengal, Bangladesh and Barak Valley region of Assam.
Recently, renowned author and Padma Shri awardee from Arunachal Pradesh, Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi, was awarded the Asom Prakashan Parishad Literary Award-2024 for his book Dhar Aru Anyanya Galpo. Presented by the Publication Board Assam, the award included ₹5 lakhs, a citation, an ‘anga bastra,’ and a bundle of books, as announced by secretary Pramod Kalita in a press statement.
The publisher of the book, Bonlata, was also honored with the Asom Prakashan Parishad Prakashak Award. Thongchi, a celebrated literary figure, has previously received accolades such as the Sahitya Akademi Award (2005) and the Sukapha Award (2021).
