Agartala: In an exemplary step, the police in North Tripura and the adjoining Karimganj district of Assam have jointly decided to increase round-the-clock vigil along the boundary between the two States to prevent any kind of inter-State movement. The Border Security Force also extended its full cooperation along the international border with Bangladesh to prevent illegal infiltration.

The area becomes sensitive after detection of one coronavirus patient in Karimganj and another at Damcherra in North Tripura district. Representatives of both the States have decided to intensify vigil along the border and imposed a total ban on movement through the alternative Kathaltali-Jherjery National Highway that connects both the States.

The BSF is also collaborating with the district police to seal the international border with Bangladesh. This portion of the border is considered sensitive as on the other side lies Shyllet district of Bangladesh and a large number of people from the district resides abroad, especially in London, which is one of the global coronavirus hotspot at present.

The biggest concern is an unfenced patch between Yeakubnagar and Brajendra Nagar and infiltrators often use it. The BDO of Kalachara Block Trani Kanta Sarkar, Sub-divisional Police Officer Rajib Sutradhar and the BSF Company Commander Umesh Prasad recently visited all the eight border outposts of the area and reviewed the security arrangements. Patrolling along the border has also been intensified.
