DHALAI: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, Tripura Police arrested two individuals and seized Yaba tablets worth Rs. 28 crores in the Bet Bagan area of Tripura's Dhalai district on Monday evening.

Dhalai District Superintendent of Police Mihir Lal Das stated that the operation was conducted based on a tip-off. “We have been conducting extensive anti-drug drives across the state. Acting on specific intelligence, we learned that a vehicle was transporting a large quantity of Yaba tablets. Our security personnel swiftly intercepted the vehicle and, upon searching, discovered approximately 9.24 lakh Yaba tablets hidden inside an oil tank. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is around Rs. 28 crores. The vehicle originated from Assam,” Das said.

Ambassa Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nirupam Datta revealed that the contraband was concealed inside the oil tank of a 12-wheeler truck. “We have initiated a thorough investigation and are interrogating the arrested individuals to gather more information,” he added.

Tripura Police have intensified their anti-drug operations in an effort to curb the rising menace of narcotics trafficking in the state.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, in a source-based operation carried out by Salmara Police, 7,800 Yaba tablets valued at Rs 2 crore were seized from a residence. One accused had been apprehended by the police authorities.

In another similar operation, South Salmara-Mankachar police had conducted three anti-narcotics raids on January 21, resulting in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of illegal drugs, cash, and other items. The operations, led by Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) Pratap Das, had targeted locations in Chirakhowa, Bangrichar, and Balughat.
