AGARTALA: Tripura police heightened security and set up barricades around Agartala's Akhaura Integrated Check Post (ICP) in response to the announcement of a protest called ‘Bangladesh Chalo Abhiyan’ on December 3. Tripura shares an 856-kilometer international border with Bangladesh.

The protest was organized to condemn the atrocities against minorities and the arrest of ISKCON member Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu. It was scheduled to begin in front of the Rabindra Shata Barshiki Bhawan in Agartala.

West District Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar explained that a group requested permission to hold the rally, but it was denied. "Today, a group organized a protest rally, Bangladesh Chalo Abhiyan. They requested permission, but we denied it. To ensure security, we have deployed additional forces near the Agartala-Akhaura ICP and set up barricades," said the SP. He also noted that travelers moving between Bangladesh and Agartala via the ICP have not faced any problems.

In relation to an incident the previous day, where the Bangladesh national flag was burned, the SP confirmed the arrest of seven individuals, who will be presented in court for police remand. Authorities are continuing investigations, including reviewing CCTV footage to identify other participants.

The Government of India has established Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) at international land borders to facilitate cross-border trade and passenger movement. Tripura currently has two operational ICPs: the Agartala-Akhaura ICP in the West District and the Srimantapur ICP in Sepahijala District.
