AGARTALA: A major protest unfolded in Agartala on Monday, with demonstrators staging a sit-in outside the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner’s office. The protest was triggered by the alleged persecution of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh and the detention of Chinmoy Das Prabhu, a member of ISKCON.

Led by the Hindu Sangharsh Samity, a prominent right-wing group, the agitation drew a wide range of participants. One protester stated, “The interim government of Bangladesh has unlawfully arrested Hindu leader and ISKCON member Chinmoy Das Prabhu. Reports suggest that he has been deprived of basic necessities like food, which is utterly inhumane and illegal. We demand his immediate release.”

Another protester drew attention to the peaceful coexistence of Muslim minorities in India, asking, “In our country, Muslim brothers and sisters live harmoniously without facing persecution. Why are our Hindu brethren suffering such atrocities in Bangladesh? Our protest will continue until the Yunus government releases the ISKCON leader.”

BJP Vice President Subal Bhowmik, who joined the protest, expressed grave concern over the rising attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, particularly since the change in government. “These attacks have intensified, particularly since the change in government. We strongly condemn such acts of violence and intolerance,” he said.

Bhowmik also acknowledged India’s warnings to Bangladesh about the treatment of its Hindu minority and blamed Md. Yunus for fostering hatred against the community.
