AGARTALA: Six Bangladeshi individuals, including two women and two children, were arrested by Tripura Police after they entered the state from Delhi while attempting to leave the country secretly, according to police.

The six Bangladeshi nationals were taken into custody at a private guest house in the Khowai district, according to a police official.

“The Bangladeshi nationals came to the bordering Khowai district from Delhi and briefly stayed in the private lodge before returning to their country with the help of Indian touts. They are residents of Feni district of Bangladesh,” the official told the media.

According to him, during initial questioning, the Bangladeshi nationals admitted that they had fraudulently created Aadhaar, PAN, and EPIC cards when they travelled to Delhi a few months ago in pursuit of employment. These fake cards were seized by the police.

Ayasha Khatun (70), Tania Begum (35), Mohammad Mumin (23), and Muhammad Kabir (37), all adult Bangladeshi nationals, were identified as the arrested individuals. There were two children with them.

More than 570 citizens of Bangladesh and more than 63 Rohingyas have been arrested by the Railway Police, Border Security Force (BSF), and Tripura Police from the Agartala train station and other locations in Tripura over the past five months after they entered India illegally.

Out of 700 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, 55 Rohingyas have been arrested in Tripura so far in 2024, and the BSF alone has seized around Rs 50 crore worth of contraband.
