Tripura takes National Assessment Accreditation Council initiative to ensure affiliation for all the colleges

Agartala: Fresh initiative is being undertaken to ensure affiliation for all the colleges of the State under the National Assessment Accreditation Council (NAAC) evaluation process. The initiative began about six months ago but it was halted due to various reasons.

The State Government established colleges in many sub-divisions of the State during the last two decades but never cared for creating necessary infrastructure including the appointment of required teacher and other facilities like library, playground, computer class, staff room, etc.

Certain standards and infrastructure is required to get gradation of NAAC which most of the colleges don’t have. As a result, eleven out of 22 colleges in the State could never be brought under NAAC assessment.

Due to non-availability of NAAC assessment, these eleven colleges are deprived of allocations from the University Grants Commission.

Out of these eleven colleges, the NAAC assessment initiative was taken only in one college, while ten other still remained out of its purview. These are Gandacherra, Shantir Bazar, Teliamura, Bishalghar, Khumulung, Sonamura, Mohonpur, Kanchanpur, Amarpur and Longthorai Valley.

It is learnt that the Education Department has entrusted two college teachers to make a survey on the requirements of the colleges to fulfil the conditions of NAAC affiliation and necessary steps will be taken after getting their recommendations.
