AGARTALA: In a big step towards increasing investment in the northeastern region, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha declared that a five-member task force consists of chief ministers from a few northeastern states.

CM Saha has been made the convener of this high-level investment promotion committee, which also has Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, the chief ministers of Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Sikkim.

The decision to create this task force was made during the 72nd plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) held in Agartala in December of the previous year. The primary objective of the task force is to assess the current investment landscape in the Northeast, focusing on existing policies, incentives, and infrastructure.

As per the office memorandum provided by Saha, the task force is directed to prepare a comprehensive roadmap to make the northeastern region a preferred destination for investment. Priority sectors earmarked for this purpose are agriculture, tourism, logistics, information technology, and renewable energy.

The panel will also identify high-potential sectors and locations to create focused investment clusters, including agro-processing areas and tourism circuits. In addition, the task force shall advise on policy reforms to streamline approval procedures, enhance the ease of doing business, and resolve investor issues. The panel must present its findings and recommendations to the NEC within six months.
