Agartala: Tripura is all set to witness a major industrial boost with a loan of ₹975.26 crore sanctioned by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for developing infrastructure across nine industrial zones. The announcement was made on Monday by Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC) Chairman Nabadal Banik.Under the project, key infrastructure like industrial sheds, power substations, underground electric lines, fire stations, and 34 internal roads will be developed.

The selected zones include Bodhjungnagar, RK Nagar, Dukli, and AN Nagar among others.Banik informed that the state government has already handed over land for new industrial areas  127 acres at Santirbazar in South Tripura and 28 acres at Fatikroy in Unakoti district. Demarcation work has begun, and TIDC is ensuring proper land utilisation.

“No industrial plot should remain unused for long,” he added. In a bid to promote industrial growth, the TIDC has also recovered 28 acres of unused land from 24 inactive industrial units to make room for new entrepreneurs.

A special focus is being given to the plywood sector. Banik shared that two plywood units are already running in the state, and seven more are being planned. “Tripura has over 1,10,000 hectares of rubber plantations, out of which about 10,000 hectares are old and unproductive. We are promoting rubber wood-based plywood to turn this into an opportunity,” he said.If successful, this initiative could make Tripura one of the top plywood-producing states in India.
