AGARTALA: Tripura Police apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals, including a minor girl, in West Chandrapur, Dharmanagar, under North Tripura district on Saturday. The duo, identified as Nazma (35) and her minor daughter, both residents of Khulna, Bangladesh, was intercepted while attempting to cross the international border back into Bangladesh.
Acting on a tip-off, the police raided the residence of Nasir Ali in Chandrapur, where the two were found. However, five other people managed to run away from the scene when they saw the police.
During interrogation, Nazma revealed that they had come from Bangalore by train to Tripura. She further added that she had paid ₹10,000 to a tout who promised to help them cross the border illegally.
The police claim that the motive behind their visit to Bangalore remains unknown as they themselves have given conflicting statements. Authorities suspect a larger network and are actively tracing the absconding suspects and the tout connected with the incident.
The operation indicates the difficulties faced by law enforcers in dealing with illegal border crossing cases and tracing those involved in these activities. The police are still carrying out their investigation to reveal all the people who are behind the network that is facilitating these illegal movements.
Apprehension of all those individuals is being attempted as the police intend to stop any further illegal crossings in the area.
