AGARTALA: A fatal accident took place on Wednesday during ongoing works of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme in Nailahabari, which falls under the Ambassa block of Dhalai District, Tripura. Two workers lost their lives while two others sustained serious injuries.

Local reports suggest that the workers were in a government-sanctioned project when a tree fell abruptly, hitting four people. The victims were identified as Robert Malsom, aged 22, and Juhirani Malsom, whose lives were tragically lost immediately following the accident.

The two injured, Suryasa Malsom, 35, and Jagatbhakta Malsom, 50, were immediately taken to a local hospital for immediate medical attention. Their condition is still critical as medical staff strive to administer necessary treatment.

The incident has left a strong impact on the local community, with people expressing their grief at the untimely and tragic loss of life. The MGNREGA scheme, intended to generate jobs and enhance rural livelihoods, has now been overshadowed by this tragic incident.

Months ago, in a shocking incident in Assam's Guwahati, three labourers working on the city's drainage system sustained severe injuries when an old wall collapsed on them. The incident occurred near Chabipul Chariali in the Athgaon locality of the city where workers had congregated for thorough digging and dredging works to execute the Public Works Department's citywide drainage project.
