Tripura woman delivers outside hospital after doctors refuse to admit her

Guwahati: A woman gave birth at the entrance of IGM Hospital in Agartala on Thursday night at 1:30 am after doctors allegedly refused to admit her as she was COVID-19 positive.

"We brought her to the hospital when she went to her labour. Here she was tested for COVID-19 and her results came positive. After that, the hospital authorities denied her admission", a family member alleged.

"We waited for an ambulance for over an hour, but no ambulance arrived. Finally, she gave birth at the hospital gate itself," they said.

Following the delivery, the incident caused public outrage but attendants of other patients complained and blamed the hospital authorities for their sheer negligence.

When the situation turned worse, some medical staff of the hospital came outside wearing PPE kits and took the lady and the newborn inside.

As per reports, several hospitals across India have been slapped with notices for refusal of treatment to patients that has, in some cases, led to loss of life.
