AGARTALA: In response to concerns about the alleged presence of extremist groups near the international border with Bangladesh, authorities in Tripura's Kanchanpur region have heightened security measures.
Kanchanpur, situated in North Tripura, shares a 48-kilometer border with Bangladesh’s Rangamati and Khagrachari districts. Although the majority of the boundary is secured by fencing, a 300-meter unfenced stretch has raised concerns about potential vulnerabilities.
Avinash Kumar Rai, Superintendent of Police for North District, stated, "We have received reports regarding the possible movement of extremist groups along the border area." He added, "While there is no solid evidence of their presence, we are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the region's security."
In response, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) have stepped up patrols and surveillance along the border, focusing particularly on sensitive areas. Special operations have been initiated to counter potential threats and strengthen security in the vulnerable areas of the Kanchanpur subdivision.
Despite the reports, Rai assured the public that the border remains "completely secure" and stressed that the law and order situation in the region is fully under control. He further added, "Development activities across the subdivision are continuing without any interruptions."
The heightened vigilance highlights the critical need to protect border areas susceptible to cross-border activities, with authorities committed to maintaining peace and stability while ensuring that development efforts continue uninterrupted.
