Two Hardcore NLFT (BM) cadres surrendered before BSF in Tripura

Agartala: Two hardcore militants of a rebel group of National Liberation Front of Tripura NLFT (BM) group surrendered before the Border Security Force (BSF) at the head office of Tripura Frontiers in Shalbagan area of Agartala on Monday.

BSF's Tripura Frontiers DIG AK Yadav, Tripura Frontiers Public Relations officer, CE Belle, and other officers were present at the surrender ceremony.

The two surrendered militants were identified as Sanjay Tripura (45) alias Sudhanya and his assistant Hiranjoy Tripura alias Lambu.

As per a press statement, Sanjoy Tripura joined the NLFT (BM) outfit in the year 2000 and underwent cadre training in the year 2002. The cadre got listed in the group of insurgents vide Superintendent of Police (SB). Moreover, his assistant Hiranjoy Tripura joined NLFT (BM) outfit in the year 2017 and was being used for administrative activities by the outfit.

The surrender process got materialized due to regular follow up and constant motivation by DC G Team Ambasa under SHQ Tilamura, when Sanjoy Tripura driven by his desire to lead a peaceful life, denounced the path of militancy and agreed to surrender.

It may be mentioned that in recent years, a large number of NLFT (BM) cadres had surrendered before BSF and other SFs, which indicates erosion of mass public support and re-established faith of the cadre in the constitution of the country. In the year 2017, 5 cadres of NLFT (BM) and in the year 2018, 9 insurgents of the same cadre taking the number to 14 have surrendered before Border Security Force.

As per intelligence report, BSF also stated in the press statement that it is learnt that many more cadres will be joining mainstream in the near future.

BSF further mentioned that state Tripura had been facing insurgency for last four decades. The aggrieved indigenous tribal people of the state when realized that they are being socially and economically marginalized by the outsiders, they reportedly took up arms against the state.

It may further be mentioned that the insurgency was initially being spearheaded by Tripura National Volunteers (TNV) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) who later on surrendered before the security forces in the year 1988 when the tripartite agreement was signed. Thereafter the cadres of National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) further resumed insurgency in the year 1989.
