Typhoid, Fever Cause Panic In North Tripura

A CORRESPONDENT

AGARTALA: Panic gripped Kanchanpur subdivision in North Tripura as typhoid and fever are spreading in both the towns and also the rural areas of the hilly district. According to official records, over 400 patients have received treatment in local hospitals and Primary Health Centers and the inflow of patients are still continuing.

The Kanchanpur sub-divisional hospital and the primary health centers of Laljuri, Bhandarima, Ananda Bazar, Dasda, and Bhangmoon are overcrowded with patients with majority of them being children. Due to severe shortage of beds, most of them are being accommodated in the floors.

The hospital authorities are also finding it difficult to manage the situation as there are only five doctors in the sub-divisional hospital for whom maintaining the indoor, outdoor, emergency, and other services have become a Herculean task. The higher authorities were informed about the shortage of doctors but no steps have been taken so far.

The situation is so grave that the Chief Medical Officer has recently issued a notification that services in the general ward will be stopped after 4 pm and only the ‘Emergency Ward’ will function. It failed to solve the problem as all the general ward patients are rushing to emergency expecting that a doctor will be available there.
