AGARTALA: U.S. Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti and his spouse discovered the rich cultural legacy and scenic splendor of Tripura during an unexpected two-day visit. The visit was only discovered after he left Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, where the couple, at the Airport Authority of India's (AAI) request, planted a commemorative sapling.
Garcetti praised Tripura and acknowledged that he had a great time there before he boarded his aircraft. During a conversation at the Youth Hostel, he pointed out to interactions he had with several students who were from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Kerala, and Punjab states.
He also praised his tour to Ujjayanta Palace famous for its museum that was marvelous, calling it an amazing experience. He highlighted Tripura's beautiful scenery and abundant flora to entice American tourists to travel there.
Garcetti did not, however, respond to inquiries regarding any formal interactions with the state government. Given Tripura's strategic proximity to Bangladesh, which shares an 856-kilometer border with the state, his visit has stoked curiosity, especially among political watchers.
There has been an outcry on the timing of the visit amid continued unrest in Bangladesh following the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
