Violence Hits Tripura After Election Announcement

AGARTALA: As a result of Thursday's bike rally confrontations between BJP and Congress activists, tensions in Tripura's Majlishpur district have risen. The incident happened not long after the 60-member Tripura state assembly's election date was set.

A gang of "BJP-backed goons" allegedly attacked the party's employees and officials during the rally, injuring 15 of them, according to the Congress, including Ajoy Kumar, the AICC general secretary, and the state's in-charge. However, according to the BJP, the Congress supporters' alleged ransacking of a party office belonging to the ruling camp was what ignited the conflict. The altercation resulted in the injuries of several additional employees from both sides.

The superintendent of police for the West Tripura District, Sankar Debnath, commented on the situation, stating that "both sides have their own versions of the incident and have filed complaints against one another. Registration for both cases is currently underway.

Security troops have been stationed in the area in sufficient numbers to prevent any unexpected incidents. "Security forces quickly took control of the area following the event in order to restore normalcy," Debnath informed the journalists.

In the meantime, Majlishpur MLA and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman accused ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury of the attacks and said that he had provoked the unrest. Barman further recommended the ruling party to begin calculating its remaining days in office.

"When Bharatiya Janata Party goons attacked our senior leaders, the local MLA, who is also a member of the state government, was present. Our employees received stone-throwing at four different motorcycle rally venues. With Congress supporters, senior TPCC leader Asish Saha, and our national in-charge Ajoy Kumar, the local MLA also got into a verbal altercation. On social media networks, his films that use impermissible language are very popular," according to Barman.

At the Sachindra Lal colony area, where BJP-backed miscreants began throwing stones and brickbats at the Congress workers, the bike rally came under attack, according to Barman, while it was passing through the Majlishpur neighbourhood.
