Votings Flag Off for Tripura Assembly Polls

AGARTALA: The polling stations opened for voters at 7 AM in the morning of Thursday to accept the opinion of the public of the state of Tripura as they elect their leaders for the state assembly.

According to local reports, the opening hours saw a good number of voters with people waiting for their turns since early in the morning. The polling stations received about 12.32 per cent turnout in the first two hours of voting at 9 AM on Thursday.

Voting is taking place across 3337 polling stations across 60 constituencies. The election commission had declared 88 model polling stations. 97 polling stations distributed across the state are being managed by women while 44 are managed by differently-abled officials.

The young and old took to the stations to exercise their right to elect their leaders. The official number of male voters in the state is 1415223 and female voters is 1399289. Tripura also has 62 registered voters belonging to the third gender. Out of all the voters, more than 94000 belong to the first-time voters category.

“Urging the people of Tripura to vote in record numbers and strengthen the festival of democracy. I specially call upon the youth to exercise their franchise,” tweeted the Prime Minister of India in the early hours of the day. President of BJP, Jagat Prakash Nadda also tweeted, “I urge all the voters to take part in this festival of democracy & show up to vote for the Tripura assembly elections. Each vote will count towards continuing the journey of good governance, development & will prove to be decisive for a prosperous, corruption- free Tripura.”

Several key political leaders of different parties went to cast their votes early in the morning. And no incidents of poll-related violence were received in the early hours from across the state.
