47 Dengue cases detected in Nagaland

At least 47 positive cases of Dengue has been confirmed in Nagaland so far that cause scare and panic among people about this deadly epidemic.

Sources revealed that all total 296 samples from various government and private hospitals were tested at the Sentinel Surveillance Site Laboratory (SSSL), District Hospital Dimapur from July to 9th August, of which 47 tested positive.

According to Dimapur District Vector Borne Officer Dr Imliwabang Aier, private healthcare institutions have been asked to send samples of suspected dengue cases to the SSSL for getting a confirmed result.

Dr. Aier said that the samples were collected from both government and private hospitals and Dengue can only be confirmed when it is shown positive in the ELISA test. He informed that the test kit (ELISA) is only available at SSSL, District Hospital Dimapur.

Besides, he said all government and private hospitals were categorically informed that they should confirm dengue only after the result was positive in the ELISA test. Dimapur’s chief medical officer (CMO), Dr. K. Vikato Kinimi also emphasized the significance of sending reports of patients tested positive in the card tests to the SSSL. He also opined that until Dengue is confirmed in the ELISA test, people should not be worried.
