GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah referred to the potential of transformation across the Northeast in the NEC's 72nd plenary meeting in Agartala.
Referring to the region's strategic importance, Mr Shah said the recent enclave exchange between India and Bangladesh is a further step toward bringing the Northeast closer to global market integration.
The governor underscored the opportunities for industrial growth in the region, and said, "This will strengthen the industrial ecosystem in the Northeast and open up a global market for investors." The governor asked states to work with each other with higher amplitude, as the Government of India stands all in support of the investors.
Reflecting on the progress made over the last decade, Shah stated, "Our Northeast is now on the path of development." He lauded Modi's approach to transforming the region's tribal and linguistic diversities into strengths. Sounding optimistic, Shah reminded that over 20 agreements had been inked, and more than 9,000 youths had abandoned insurgency for mainstreaming.
The Union Home Minister described the Northeast as India's "gateway of economic development." He pointed out that the Chittagong port was bringing the region closer to the global market and that this region had the potential to drive exports. "The Northeast will become not only a gateway for India's development but also a bridge of trust for the entire country," Shah remarked.
Shah demanded that the Northeast police should focus on the rights of the citizens rather than counterinsurgency. "This calls for changes in training, approach, and priorities," he said. He also called upon the state governors to oversee the implementation of new laws that aim at improving justice systems and reinforcing constitutional rights in the region.
Shah also highlighted the "Asthalaxmi Concept," introduced by Prime Minister Modi, which envisions the Northeast as a hub of economic prosperity. "The entire nation supports the growth of the Northeast, recognizing its vital role in India's progress," he said.
In conclusion, Amit Shah expressed optimism about the region's future, envisioning the Northeast as a critical player in India's development and a bridge to global markets.
