Four held for gold smuggling in Siligur

GUWAHATI, July 13: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized more than 10 kilograms (kgs) of gold in Siliguri and arrested four persons, all belonging from Mizoram in this connection. This is just after another seizure of 10 kgs of gold last week only in the same region.

Based on intelligence, the officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have seized 23 gold bars totally 10.490 kgs valued at Rs.3,32 crore bearing foreign inscriptions from four persons of Mizoram who were staying at Hotel Padma in Pradhannagar, Siliguri on July 11.

These gold bars have been smuggled into India from Myanmar through Indo-Myanmar border at Champhai, Mizoram. The acccused travelled by bus to Siliguri and were headed for onward delivery to Kolkata. The four apprehended persons have been arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962 and remanded to judicial custody, as stated in a press release on Friday.
