Tripura to get Sainik School

AGARTALA: A military school popularly known as Sainik School is going to be established in Tripura and selection of site for the purpose has already been initiated. The State government has proposed two sites one in Dhalai and the other in Khowai district.

A representative of Indian Army, Brigadier G Rambabu of Indian Navy, have visited the site at Khowai Choumuhani under Mohonpur sub-division of Khowai district on Monday and suppose to visit the proposed another site at Dhalai district too.

Prasun Dey, SDM, Mohonpur and officials of other concerned departments accompanied Brig. Rambabu while visiting the site and apprised him about the facilities like communication. It is learnt that he primarily expressed satisfaction about the site and enquired about if there is any private property in this 50 acres of plot.

The Union government will take decision after he submits a report about his visit and a memorandum of understanding will be signed between the Indian Army and the State government. As per the procedure the project will be fully funded by Indian army and the State government will be liable for civil constructions.

Brig. Rambabu said if the project is cleared it will take around two to three years time for the school to be operable. Either 300 or 500 students will get the chance to study in this school and admission will be on the basis of a entrance examination. However, 67 per cent of seats will remain reserve for the State rest will be filled up from rest of the country.

Students passed out of this school will have the chance to get gob in Indian Army. He said they will have an advantage in all the competitive examinations as from horse riding to many things will be taught here.
