Tripura to set up Rubber Processing Factory

Agartala: Tripura government has taken up a special programme to revive the Tripura Rubber Plantation Corporation which is facing serious crisis for quite a long time with active co-operation from North East Council.

A two member team of the NEC recently visited the state-held meeting with the Minister for Forest department Meber Kumar Jamatia, where Managing Director of the TRPC and other senior officers were present.

The meeting emphasised on setting up of a Rubber Processing Factory which will need an investment of Rs 15 to 20 crore. The meeting has decided to approach the NEC to bear the expenses.

After reviewing the functioning of the corporation, the meeting observed that such a processing factory is needed to revive and revitalise the TRPC as well as to ensure profit for the rubber growers of the state.

The meeting also decided to construct its own godown for storage of the raw rubber collected from the growers and the finished product of the proposed factory. At present, the corporation have a rented godown for which they pay Rs 70,000 per month.

In the meeting, it was also decided to set up a plywood factory using the rubber woods which have a huge demand in the market. It also proposed to acquire 43 kani of land near Bishramgunj under Sipahijala district.

Minister Jamatia along with senior officers of the corporation and the experts from NEC also visited the plot of land when a large number of local people gathered. A spokesman of the corporation said acquiring the land will not be a problem as it is under government possession now.
