The 'Dream Girl' of Indian Cinema, the multitalented Hema Malini is a force to be reckoned with. Persistent and ever evolving, this leading lady of Bollywood, despite enduring initial rejections, did not admit defeat and went on to make her cinematic debut as an actor opposite Raj Kapoor in the movie 'Sapnon Ka Saudagar' (1968). Though the film wasn't a commercial success it launched Hema Malini as the 'bollywood dream girl'. Later on she went on to star in the movie 'Dream Girl '(1977). She has delivered maximum number of hits opposite Dharmendra, Shashi Kapoor and Dev Anand.

This acclaimed Bollywood actor was born as the third child to a Tamil-speaking Iyengar family to her mother Jaya Lakshmi Chakravarti, a film producer, and VSR Chakravarti. She and her husband, Dharmendra converted to Islam to get married in 1979. Her first film with Dharmendra was 'Sharafat' (1970). A trained and prolific Bharatnatyam dancer, she has delivered performances alongside her daughter Esha Deol. Over the years she has taken up diverse roles like a young widow in Andaz (1971) and a jealous woman in a negative character in Lal Patthar (1971). She has appeared in over 155 films and has received critical appreciation as well as commercial success. She was last seen on the big screen in the movie 'Ek Thi Rani Aisi Bhi' (2017) with Vinod Kumar as her husband .

Hema Malini has been nominated for and been awarded many awards. In the span of her glorious career she has received eleven nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, winning the award in 1973. Malini was also awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award (2000) and the Padma Shri. In 2012, the Sir Padampat Singhania University conferred an Honorary Doctorate on Malini in recognition of her contribution to Indian cinema. She has served as chairperson of the National Film Development Corporation and received the Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts (SaMaPa) Vitasta award (2006) and the NTR National Award (2013) from the Government of Andhra Pradesh. A true empowered lady, Hema Malini, is an avid supporter of PETA and became "PETA Person of the Year". A member of the Bharatiya Janta Party, she served as an MP in the Rajya Shabha from 2003-2009.

Truly a lady to admire, Hema Malini is now politically more active and her current residence is at Gokuldham in Goreagaon (east).
