Supriya Pathak Kapur: A Flashback (Iconic Actress)

Supriya Pathak Kapur, an Indian actress of film, television and stage, who is popular for the role of Hansa Parekh in the "Khichdi" franchise, and as Dhankor Baa in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela." Supriya Pathak was born to Gujarati theater artiste, and veteran actor, Dina Pathak, in Gujarat and a Punjabi father, Baldev Pathak, who was a dressmaker for the stars like Rajesh Khanna and Dilip Kumar. Her elder sister is Ratna Pathak, who is a theatre artiste and film actor. Supriya grew up in Parsi Colony in Dadar, Mumbai, and studied in the J. B. Vachha High school. She has a bachelor's degree in Fine art, specializing in Bharatanatyam, from the Nalanda Dance Research Centre, University of Mumbai.

Supriya's first acting veture was under her mother's direction, "Maina Gurjari," followed by a play by French playwright Molière, "Biwiyon Ka Madersa" staged at the Prithvi Theatre. There that Jennifer Kendall, the late wife of Shashi Kapoor spotted her and recommended her to Shyam Benegal for "Kalyug" (1981). Kalyug was an adaptation of the epic "Mahabharata".

Supriya Pathak K portrayed the role of Subhadra, which won her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

She gave stellar performances in "Vijeta" (1982), "Bazaar" (1982), in the biopic, "Gandhi" (1982) "Masoom" (1983) and "Mirch Masala "(1985) and a French film, "The Bengali Night" And "Raakh" (1989).

She is seen popularly on the small screen role like of those in "Idhar Udhar", "Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka", "Khichdi", "Baa Bahoo Aur Baby" and "Chanchan" among many.

In the year of 1994, along with her husband, Pankaj Kapur, she launched their own TV production house, "Grass Company". And, their production for the serial was Mohandas B.A.L.L.B, and they acted in it as well. After a 11-year sabbatical from acting, she gave a power-packed performance in the film "Sarkar" (2005), followed by its sequel, Sarkar Raj (2008).

She was applauded for her role in "Wake Up Sid" (2009). In 2017, one of her movies, "Best of Luck Lalu" was released. She also starred in "Love Per Square Foot" as Lata Chaturvedi.

She has won 3 Filmfare awards as the Best Supporting Actress in 29th, 30th and 59th edition of the award. She has also won Indian Telly awards twice (3rd and 5th edition); and Indian Television Academy Awards twice (4th & 8th edition) among others.

Supriya Pathak has also won awards for negative roles for Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela: 9th Apsara Film & Television Producers Guild Awards; 15th Zee Cine Awards; 15th IIFA Awards and 20th Screen Awards. This versatile actress is surely an asset to the Indian film industry.
