Usha Uthup

* She started her career in Chennai in 1969 by singing in a night club called Nine Gems which was in the basement of Safire theatre complex in Mount Road.

* Her first Tamil song was for the 1975 Tamil film Melnaatu Marumagal starring Kamal , Shivakumar and Jayasudha in the lead.

* She sung for Illayaraja for the movie Anjali and the song was Vegam Vegam Pogum Pogum Magic Journey.

* Her acting debut was also with Melnaatu Marumagal. She was also part of Kamal’s Manmadhan Ambu.

* She was a judge for the reality singing show Kuyil Paatu on Kalaignar TV in 2012.

6. She has also been answered Padma Shri by the Government of India.

* She won the Filmfare Award for the song Darling from 7 Khoon Maaf. She shared the award with Rekha Bharadwaj.
